TISCO successfully developed 750MPa ultra-high strength silicon steel

Recently, TISCO successfully developed a 0.65mm thick, 750MPa-grade, ultra-high-strength, non-oriented silicon steel (grade: 65TWYS750) with excellent magnetic and mechanical properties. The steel has been supplied in bulk to a well-known domestic generator manufacturer and successfully applied in variable-speed pumped storage applications. User feedback indicates that the product's specifications fully meet the technical and application requirements for high-head, large-capacity variable-speed pumped hydro units. This marks TISCO as the first global company to achieve a breakthrough in the application of this grade of silicon steel in this field.

With the deepening implementation of my country's "dual carbon" strategy, demand for intermittent renewable energy sources such as wind power and photovoltaics is increasing year by year. To improve grid stability, new variable-speed pumped storage technologies have become a new direction for my country's power development. To this end, a leading domestic hydropower unit manufacturer has formulated technical requirements for high-head, high-speed, and large-capacity variable-speed pumped storage. The rotor core material for this technology requires ultra-high-strength, non-oriented silicon steel with a yield strength greater than 750MPa in a 0.65mm gauge to meet the requirements of variable-speed generators for a wider regulation range and lower energy consumption. Due to the difficulty in manufacturing this material, no company in China or abroad possesses a stable supply. Upon receiving a user's inquiry, TISCO quickly established a dedicated task force to conduct in-depth research on the compatibility of chemical composition and recrystallized structure with the product's magnetic properties, strength, and elongation, as well as the process window. This team established a process synergy between magnetic and mechanical properties, resulting in a three-step composite strengthening technology for silicon steel. Product development was successfully completed within two months, making TISCO the world's first company to successfully develop a 0.65mm thick silicon steel product with a yield strength of 750MPa.

Focusing on a customer-centric service philosophy, TISCO's technical team participated throughout the entire process, including sample testing, coating material selection guidance, and product standard development. They provide a comprehensive solution from material development to application implementation, helping customers rapidly achieve technology transformation.

At present, TISCO has developed a series of ultra-high-strength silicon steels with specifications of 0.50mm and 0.65mm, as well as special products for users' special needs, focusing on the demand for ultra-high-strength silicon steel materials for the development of variable-speed pumped-storage units. It has formed a full range of coverage in the strength range of 570MPa-750MPa, and simultaneously completed fatigue characteristics research under different conditions. It has formed a complete set of patented technologies in manufacturing and application technology, and its technical level has reached the international leading level, which has contributed to the steady development of new technologies for variable-speed pumped-storage power generation in my country.
