Copper Plate/Sheet
Bronze

Bronze is one of the oldest and most important alloys in human history. Traditionally, it is a mixture of Copper (typically 88%) and Tin (typically 12%), though modern bronzes often incorporate other elements like aluminum, manganese, silicon, or nickel to achieve specific industrial properties.

Common Industrial Bronze Grades

Bronze TypeCommon GradesKey Alloying ElementsPrimary Characteristics
Tin BronzeC90300, C90500Tin (8%-12%), PhosphorusHigh strength, excellent wear resistance, and great "castability."
Aluminum BronzeC63000, C95400Aluminum (6%-12%), Iron, NickelExtremely high strength and superior corrosion resistance in seawater.
Phosphor BronzeC51000, C54400Tin (4%-9%), Phosphorus (0.5%)Exceptional fatigue resistance and elasticity; the standard for springs.
Silicon BronzeC65500Silicon (3%), ManganeseEasy to weld and highly resistant to fluids; used for architectural hardware.
Manganese BronzeC86300Manganese, Zinc, IronHigh-torque strength; often called "Yellow Bronze."

General Technical Properties

  • Melting Point: 950°C - 1050°C (slightly higher than brass).

  • Density: 7.4 - 8.9 g/cm³ (depending on tin content).

  • Corrosion Resistance: Excellent, particularly against metal-on-metal wear and salt-water corrosion.

  • Mechanical Strength: Generally harder and more brittle than copper, but tougher than most brasses.

  • Non-Sparking: Bronze tools do not strike sparks, making them vital for "ATEX" (explosive atmosphere) zones.
